Vulnerability & Pluralism as minimal ethical and political baselines
Every ethical system draws a circle — around the rational, the innocent, the deserving, the human. The Vulnerability-Pluralism Model tears that circle open. It says: wherever a being can suffer, a moral obligation arises. Not because of what that being can do, or what it believes, or what group it belongs to — but because of what can be done to it. This is not softness. It is the most rigorous foundation ethics has ever had: observable, universal, and impossible to argue away without revealing the argument as a defence of power. The VPM Lab was founded on this insight — and on the conviction that the world becomes more just, more stable, and more human when we organise our institutions, laws, and relationships around the protection of the vulnerable rather than the celebration of the strong. VPM reframes organisational development and human–AI interaction around one core question: “Who is most exposed to harm, and how do we design systems around their protection and voice?”
